Colorado Marathon

By WB0ZVE - Posted on 14 April 2011

NCARC supports the annual Colorado Marathon, for Marathon info go here http://www.ftcollinsmarathon.com/.  This year's race was May 1. 2011.   The remaining page is what we used to keep track of what was going on leading up to the race.

The Marathon utilizes local Ham's for this event.  WE are the link to EMS, supply and sag vehicles.  Without communications the Marathon would not be able to get a permit from Larimer County or The City of Fort Collins, so we are a very vital part of this event!  The marathon runners all appreciate what we do, as well as all other volunteers that help to pull this off.  I hope you can help this year, you will have a great time!!   Marty, KCØQOK

The race starts at 0600, please be on time!!  Allow enough time to get set up and make sure you have a signal into the repeater you are assigned to. Those assignments will be made at a later date, but both repeaters should be VHF.  Fingers are crossed here! I also want ALL stations to monitor the ARES simplex freg. of 147.510. Aid stations 1-8 will be required to  use mobile radios, no HT's.  Aid Stations 9-12 should be able to use HT's, but it is requested that mobile radios be available. Aid stations 1-3 including start and the 2 upper sags will be required to have large antennas (5' (Super Gainers)). Start, sag 1 and 2 will be using a radio provided by Tom and antennas provided by the club.  It has been decided as of 02/15/11 that the Sag Wagons will be personal vehicles (POV) provided by the 4 volunteers.  The information here will be updated as decisions are made.  Finish line folks use HT's.  All volunteers with HT's should have spare batteries.  Any questions contact Marty, KCØQOK at KC0QOK@COWISP.NET

The map of the course shown below has white cross showing the location of each aid station.  To see the actual mileage from the start line and a description of the location for each of the aid stations click here.

The table below shows all of the NCARC positions for the Marathon, which are filled, and which still need volunteers.

This year instead of individual T shirts for the volunteers, the NCARC had received a generous donation from the Marathon to help fund necessary equipment purchases. Also this year to enhance volunteer visibility and safety,  vests are being provided to all race volunteers for use during the race. The marathon's plan was to purchase something which will be reused for years while making volunteers both easily identified and safer. We are all invited to the after party for pizza and drinks at Coopersmith's Pool Hall side following the wrapup of the race activities.. Thanks for our help. The NCARC and I appreciate all of your efforts...........Marty KC0QOK
